Behind the Scenes of SimpleNutrition

I’m thrilled to announce a new program launching today in our stores called SimpleNutrition! SimpleNutrition provides shoppers with helpful nutrition information throughout our stores so it’s quicker and easier to make healthful food choices.

Developed by registered dietitians and nutrition labeling experts, SimpleNutrition is grounded in dietary guidance, nutrition labeling regulations and current science. As a dietitian, I love SimpleNutrition because it makes finding nutritious choices in our stores¬–well, simpler! Think of it as having your own personal nutrition expert shopping with you.

You’ll find SimpleNutrition green shelf tags throughout the aisles.  Along with the nutrition information you see on a product’s package, our tags can help you make nutritious and delicious choices for your family. Our SimpleNutrition tags highlight key benefits such as “Made with Whole Grains,” “Sodium Smart” and “Low Fat.” For example, if you want a lower sodium soup, look for the “Sodium Smart” tag on shelves. We’ve also made it simpler for you to find foods that fit the way you eat. Our SimpleNutrition tags help point you to foods that are gluten free, organic, calorie smart and sugar free, too. Check out our brochure (available in stores) to learn more about SimpleNutrition.

And be sure to click around our website for additional SimpleNutrition information. You can learn more about how items qualify for a SimpleNutrition tag and find everything from quick food ideas and recipes, to money-saving tips that will help you keep nutrition and your budget in check.

Check out SimpleNutrition–in store and online–and let us know what you think!

The Simple Nutrition idea is a good one, however, it would also be great if Safeway would offer a list on their website of all products catagorizing them as gluten free, low sodium, fat free, etc.  For example, I want to know what products are gluten free.  The catagory "gluten free" would contain all products that are gluten free.  A certain product may be gluten free and sodium free, so the product would be listed under both catagories.  Under the "gluten free" section, there could be initials for other health benefits like LS for Low Sodium or FF for Fat Free and then the product would also be shown under the other catagories, as well.  It would be great to have a list I can print from your site so I know exactly what products I want.  Trying to look at all the little tags is over-whelming!

Example:

GLUTEN FREE PRODUCTS                         FAT FREE PRODUCTS

Yoplait Fat Free Yogurt - FF                      Yoplait Fat Free Yogurt - GF

FF for Fat Free                                         GF for Gluten Free...... simple cross referencing.

I can't seem to find nutritional information for the Chicago South Sider Sandwich from your Signature Cafe menu?  I want to put it in my Calories Counter Daily Log.  I've always been able to locate nutritional info:  calories, fat, carbs, etc. for your other Signature Cafe sandwiches.  Can you help me get this information?

We suggest you call our corporate Brands department at 888-723-3929, or contact us directly at safewaysocialmedia@safeway.com for nutritional information about our sandwiches. Thanks for the inquiry!

Now that you have removed the "book" from the produce dept that showed all the Carbs in them, it is very difficult to purchase veggies and be aware of the amount of carbs. I asked the produce Mngr, and he said that is on our web site and all that information is there that the Book had.  Bottom line is  Not so. Where can I find  the amount of carbs in all produce???

Tks. I offered to buy the book before it was "picked up" but not possible
