Jewel,

I'm thrilled to hear that the Holiday Hotline was a success! You're very welcome! I hope this convenient option comes in handy for a future holiday meal!

by Ron Blake(anon) on ‎12-25-2010 12:35 PM

We tried the Turkey Meal for our Christmas dinner.  It took 1 ½ hours to heat the turkey only to find that it was under cooked.  The potatoes were OK, the stuffing was the worst I’ve ever had in my 68 years of life, the gravy was horrible and an insufficient amount, but I was able to make some very good gravy from the turkey juices.  Today I threw out the stuffing and made a bread stuffing and added some of the turkey juices to it.  My homemade dressing turned out well.  It would have been less work and we would have had a much better meal if I had done it all from scratch; all in all, I could not recommend this to anybody!   Don’t waste your money on this garbage.

We’re sorry to hear you weren’t happy with the holiday meal. We are always looking for feedback about our products and services and will keep this in mind. Thanks for the feedback Ron.

by Berry Poo(anon) on ‎11-10-2011 09:56 PM

I have to agree with Ron.  Last year our Thanksgiving was virtually ruined because of the horrible food.  We ended up taking the meat and making turkey sandwiches.  The gravy tasted like it was poured out of a can.  The potatoes weren't even close in texture to real potatoes and the stuffing was inedible.

Berry, we're sorry to hear about your experience with our Holiday Dinners. We'll make sure that our Corporate Brands Department receives your feedback for further review. Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns.

i used the holiday meal last year and my family loves it. great taste, value. The easy preparation gave us more time to spend with friends and family. Any Plans on doing a vegetarian version in the near future?..

by on ‎11-14-2011 02:00 PM

Thanks for sharing your feedback, Cjdmutt! We’ll send your suggestion and compliments to our Corporate Brands Team for further review and consideration.

by PK(anon) on ‎11-19-2011 06:04 PM

I am surprised to see the negative reviews.  My family has completely different experience.  We are weekend restaurant goers so pretty picky of what we put in our mouth.  This is the fourth year my family ordered Safeway Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner.  We recommended it to many of our friends, so far we have yet to hear any complaints.  The meat was tender, juicy, and tasty, and the meal portion is just right for a party of 10+.

by Demetria Shew(anon) on ‎11-20-2011 01:03 PM
I now get the Safeway Turkey dinner every Thanksgiving. It isn't mom's cooking but, heavens, it isn't supposed to be. It is easy and good and a definite treat. Perfect for anyone who has a small celebration and is ready for a restaurant style meal at home. No fuss, fewer dishes, more time to celebrate. I'll be picking mine up on Tuesday and, hopefully, every year for some time to come.

Thanks for the Turkey Dinner.  A great help in the holiday preparation.  Less time in the kitchen and more time to spend with your relatives and friends.  Everybody appreciates the food.  Of course, anybody is welcome to add some more of your favorite food, which I can always do because the Turkey Dinner is already prepared by Safeway.

Hi Irma,

Glad to hear you and your family enjoy our Turkey Dinner. We hope it helped make your Thanksgiving extra delicious!

The stuffing is horrible, the gravy is blah and the mashed potatoes are marginal at best. We buy the turkey dinner because of the low price, not because it tastes good.

by Cindy D(anon) on ‎12-08-2011 04:01 PM

I ordered the Thanksgiving Dinner in 2010 and again this year.  I even called the store the day before to make sure the ENTIRE meal was refrigerated, not frozen.  I got to the store and the turkey was thawed.  Yay!  I got home, put the turkey in the oven, only to discover that all of the sides were FROZEN.  Shame on me for not checking at the store, but why do they ask when you place the order?  Made for a hectic preparation, mostly in the microwave to thaw everything.  Cooking from scratch would have been better.  Argh.

by on ‎12-09-2011 11:19 AM

Harold, we apologize that you didn’t enjoy your turkey dinner. Our Corporate Brands Team would like to take your feedback directly.  Please give them a call at 1-888-723-3929 at your earliest convenience, or email us at safewaysocialmedia@safeway.com with the store location where you purchased your dinner.

I've ordered your meals for Christmas this year, but I'm concerned because I've been reading about how some turkeys have gluten injected into them.  I will make extra pies and stuffing and gravy for those who can't tolerate gluten.  It would be nice if you could develop side dishes that don't have gluten in them.  There are an awful lot of people who can't eat gluten.

by on ‎12-22-2011 11:59 AM

Aldean, can you email us at safewaysocialmedia@safeway.com with the UPC# of the turkey you’re requesting gluten information about?  We’d be happy to look into this.  Also, the side dishes are mostly gluten free (with the exception of pies and stuffing) but we’d be happy to research specific side dishes for gluten and would ask you to include those side dishes in your email.

This was the first time that I have ordered a prepared meal for the holiday. The reason I even ordered the prepared meal was due to a family illness that has caused heavy stress on alot of family members. I ordered the meal at the Safeway store in Clearlake, CA. I ordered the meal 3-4 days prior to Christmas. I went to the store, made the order, paid for the order and was given an order number of 18 hand written on a small piece of paper. The guy in the deli told me that since I prepaid all I needed to remember was the number 18. I put the order in my name and my mother in laws name, since I would be out of town on Christmas Eve..the day the order needed to be picked up. At 2pm on Christmas eve, she went to pick of the order. They couldn't find our order at first because the order numbers had been changed..why would they give somebody an order number and then change it?? Then they told her their paperwork showed the order had not been paid for (obviously, the guy who took my order didnt finish his portion of the paperwork), so now she has to repay for the order to be able to get it, so now a $40 dinner, now cost $80. Now I have to go to the store tomorrow and hopefully I will be refunded $40. Definetly not looking forward to it, as my mother in law stated that one of the employees that was dealing with her over this, was extremely rude to her. The process used to take the orders at this Safeway was in no way handled in a business like manner.  Prior to hearing about this ordeal from my mother in law, I am at other family and friends on Christmas Eve, telling them that everyone should order through safeway, and how it is a wonderful feeling knowing you won't have all the stress of cooking on the holidays. For what my mother in law had to go through to get the meal that was pre-ordered and pre-paid, and for me now having to go back to the store and hopefully be refunded for the overpayment, I definetly would take back all my great comments that I told people about. For trying to do something to relieve some stress this holiday, it definetly did not work out that way.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Kathy. We apologize for any inconvenience you and your mother-in-law experienced and will notify the Store Manager right away.

I purchased the turkey dinner last year (2011).  While I don't remember how much of it tasted, I DO recall that it seemed perfectly fine to me (just accept it, NOBODY or NOTHING can replace "mom"), and was impressed overall with the completeness of the meal, and small amount of preparation (hearing it up, really) it involved.  Also, it was just for two people and there were tons of leftovers which kept very well for a week or two.  Lastly, I also recall saying I would do it again in the future; and I will this month (Nov, 2012).

My only gripe is that I can never seem to find an internet web page (a) describing the contents -- of course there are 3 meals: turkey, ham and prime rib -- and the quantity involved; (b) the price of each, and (c) precisely how to get it or where to telephone, etc.  I've found pages with the piecemeal (no pun intended) info on it but challenge somebody to show me the page with all that info on it.  This means YOU Safeway.

However, all may be forgiven.  Just the other day I discovered a voice mail message on my cell phone where a Safeway rep very conveniently left me a message that they noticed I purchased the meal last year and offered to provide the same setup this year if I returned that call.  First off they WANTED my business, which I always like, and secondly, they made it effortless and convenient.  But my main peeve still goes -- uh, could somebody remind me or SHOW me what the entire scope of my options actually ARE?  I always have to do extensive Google searches to ferret out this info and it should be made more simply available.

My turkey dinner didn't come with the heating instructions & I can't seem to find online (silly). Can anyone tell me the heating instructions for everything? Oven & microwave instuctions please!

by billinchattaroy(anon) on ‎11-21-2012 10:43 AM

couldn't find a price for turkeys per pound on the whole site. Why bother going if you dont advertise your prices? Not the safeway I knew years ago.

by ANN(anon) on ‎11-21-2012 02:38 PM

i've heard so much good thing about it already soo i decide to order it this yearssss !!!! ill let you guy know what i feel . <3

by Deborah(anon) on ‎11-22-2012 12:17 PM

My father just picked up and brought home the turkey dinner and my mother is outraged. All the sides come frozen. All the food is hard as a rock so we'll be spending the next few hours furiously trying to defrost everything. How long has this food been sitting in their freezer? Weeks, months? If we wanted frozen dinners we would have picked up a few Lean Cusines. What could the people there be thinking? If Safeway is going to promote and sell turkey dinners then Safeway should provide FRESH dinners, refrigerated maybe, but NOT FROZEN. Safeway just lost several customers-- not only our family but everyone we know because, trust me, we'll make sure to tell every last one of them about this.

by DC(anon) on ‎11-22-2012 01:39 PM

I just finished eating our meal from Safeway. Only after I had to heat some meat up in the mrcowave while the rest is sliced and back in the oven, with the legs and wings.....after 2 hrs and 20 minutes, under foil it was NOT nearly done. I was very dissappointed. I didn't even bother with the gravy and made my own from the drippings as per usual. The stuffing was eh. Stove Top would have been better. I don't think that I will get this again.  It was supposed to be fully cooked and only needed to be heated.....not even close.

I want to order the meal for our Christmas dinner but can not get through.  I'm put on hold, then it asks me to leave a message.  I can not leave a message because I'm not able to use my phone at work during business hours to pick up messages...so we would just end up playing telephone tag.  I've been trying to get through since Friday, and now it's already Monday...I need a place that can take my order when I call or online...anyone have any ideas?

by Trudy(anon) on ‎12-17-2012 05:21 PM

Whoo hoo!  A Safeway competitor store had holiday meals that I could call my local store and order and they answered the phone on the first ring!!!  I'm all set.  Sorry Safeway...

Gee, I'm quite old, (53. and ill) and after yrs. of preparing holliday dinners was quite thrilled with the quality and service (Brentwood) that we received!!! And I was somewhat of an accomplished chef!!! I'm perplexed with the comments above? Will continue to use this store to add to our festivities while I'm ill. Obviously, I recommend it!!

by on ‎12-20-2012 12:07 PM

Thanks for your feedback, Gretchen! We're happy to hear you enjoyed the service you received! Can you please email us at safewaysocialmedia@safeway.com and let us know which of our Brentwood locations you are referring to? We'd like to share your comments with the Store Manager.

by Heather Griffiths(anon) on ‎12-25-2012 05:16 PM

We usually get the turkey meal for Thanksgiving, and for three years, a hit. I tried the prime rib dinner for Christmas this year, and well...the prime rib itself was great and the cooking directions were spot on. The green bean casserole was good, but to be quite honest, the scalloped totatoes and the corn melody...they tasted like..in my 14 year old daughters words.."like stinky feet" . Not that we have eaten stinky feet, but if there was such a dish, it would have been similar to what we had for Christmas dinner as the side dishes. The dogs and cats would not even go near the stuff, they sniffed and just looked at us waiting for some dry kibble. Why can't we e;ect to buy sides as optional? Some are really good, and some most certainly not so. We should have the opt to choose, considering you have a whole refrirator of elective sides right next to the deli. KFC lets us choose our sides, I think that would be a nice change for these holiday kits. I will not order anything again in a Safeway kit if it has scalloped potatoes or corn melody, even if you put it in the turkey kit. And I am the only one in my familiy that likes green beans, it would have been nice to opt for some mashed potatoes, or some mac bake..

Heather, please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.  If you are dissatisfied with any product, feel free to return to the store with your receipt and speak with an associate at the Customer Service Booth.  They will be happy to assist you with the matter.
