Don’t forget to turn all your clocks ahead one hour this weekend – Daylight Savings Time officially changes at 2am on Sunday, March 13th. I always have mixed feelings in the Spring when this day arrives – I LOVE having extended daylight in the evening but it definitely makes our bed time ritual for the girls a little bumpier.
There’s the week or so transition to the new time, and as summer approaches, the “how can it be bedtime if it’s still light outside?” question. There are essentially two schools of thought on helping kids adjust. First, a gradual approach, where you start a few days ahead and move the child’s bedtime 15 minutes earlier so that when DST arrives you’re right on schedule. The second is the one we’ve used over the years, driven by either having forgotten to change the clocks or just not wanting to deal with it – it’s the “cold turkey approach” just get the kids to bed at the new real time and eventually everyone will adjust.
