It’s hard to believe that my oldest is going to be six and nearly finished with Kindergarten. We’ve traditionally hosted her birthday parties at the house, with lunch, cake, and a jumpy house for a couple of hours. This year though I just didn’t have the energy to get it all together so I went searching for a budget friendly “outside the house” solution. Gabby’s been to a number of great locations for parties – “Build a Bear”, “Bounce U” (a warehouse of jumpies), and indoor play/game places like “The Jungle” or “Super Franks”. She had loads of fun at all but I just didn’t want to spend that kind of money for a six year old’s birthday party. Then I remembered how much fun she had bowling over the holidays so we checked it out. For the same cost as our home party we could take 10 of her friends bowling and have cake and ice cream. Simple, affordable, fun, and no clean up! And, we can still get our cake at Safeway. The last couple of years her choice has been the princess cake. Disney princesses sitting atop a fudge filled chocolate sheet cake with fudge frosting – yum! The girls love playing with the plastic princesses afterwards, and we’ve converted some of the princesses into Christmas tree ornaments too! This year we might opt for the cupcake cake to make it easier to eat at the bowling alley but Gabby has made it clear that she still wants the princesses. What are some of the things you’ve done for a child’s birthday party?
