Seafood Seasoning

As an avid fan of seafood, I have tried many concoctions of dry rubs and wet marinades to prepare my fish and shrimp. I typically tend to stick to the basics; olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper, lemon, etc. On rare occasion, I’ll venture out for a bit more flavor to try some of the gourmet spices, but I sometimes regret paying the extra money for a full can of expensive spice that I may not completely use for a while.

Recently, the Safeway seafood departments began a new marinade program that perfectly bridges the gap between my traditional ingredients and the expensive gourmet spices. You can now get a free packet of waterfrontBISTRO® seafood spices and rubs with any seafood purchase.

SeafoodSeasoning.JPGChoose from these 5 varieties: Cuban Mojo (Tropical blend), Chimichurri (Argentine BBQ style), Charmoula (Moroccan flavor), Tandoori (East Indian flavors) or American Smokehouse. These .4oz packets are perfect for (2) 6oz fish filets or approximately 1lb of shrimp.

The ingredients in all 5 varieties are natural so you don’t have to worry about any processed junk polluting your perfectly healthy seafood dinner. I highly recommend trying one of these to flavor your next Seafood dinner. Just ask for a free packet with your next Seafood purchase, and then let me know how it worked out for you. I’d love to hear which flavors are your favorites!

All of those sound great, but, are they going to be always free? or is it just a promotion? and, do we have to ask the meat clerk for a free packet? or they will be close to the seafood section?

Thanks for the inquiry Christopher. Just ask for a free packet of seafood spices or rubs in the Seafood Department with your next seafood purchase.

The Chimichurri an Argentinean Seasoning is Delicious! I mix it with 1/4 c olive oil or less and add to a gallon ziplock bag and marinate either steak or pork chops or A pork tenderlion with it.

It reminds me of the visits I've had to Argentina! Absolutely delisious!Pare it with the Oridea Steamer Sweet Potatoes "Frozen isle" and a vegetable/salad and dinner is served in 20 min or less! Best part... My hubby thinks I slaved over it! haha

My new favorite spice! I just wish I could buy it in a bigger quanity.

I'm afraid that not many people know that these spices are free with your meat at Safeway, and it will be disconteniued....

Super easy way to prepare meat! I'm sold!

Recently, I made two batches of shrimp dip that were hits and parties. Mix Charmoula spice packet with 16oz sour cream (I like the richer, higher fat stuff) and about 1/2 cup mayo. Make sure the lumps of spice mix are broken up. Add a pound of cooked shrinp. I like half small shrimp meat and half a little larger. Stir in snipped chives. Refrigerate to let flavors meld and enjouy. Of course, anything close to this will taste good.

That sounds delicious! Thank you for sharing your recipe. :smileyhappy:

I just got some Cuban Mojo seasoning with my salmon. It was amazing. Is there any way (or will there be) to buy this separately? I have a lot of fish at home right now that I want to use this on, and I don't want to have to buy even more fish just to get more seasoning. Or if I ask, do you think they would give me a bunch of packets? I really think this mix should be available in a jar for sale, everyone who tried the salmon would definitely go out and buy some. They kept asking me how I seasoned it! :smileyhappy:

Leylee, we suggest checking with your Seafood Manager about this. If you contact us directly at safewaysocialmedia@safeway.com, we'd also be happy to look into it further!

I had just tried a few of these spice packets...love them! Heres the kicker...I moved to Williston, ND. Do we have a Safeway here...of course not. I can't go up and ask for 40 packets of free Mojo!

Now what?!

by on ‎11-10-2011 01:43 PM

Dani, we have an extensive catalog of seasoning choices in our Recipes and Meals section of our website.  While we wouldn’t be able to provide you with the exact seasoning you were able to get at your previous store, you may be able to find something similar in our Recipe Search.

I loved the dry salmon seasoning spice blend that my Safeway seafood counter used give out. After they stopped, I tried all of the Salmon spice products they sell but none was the same. I've asked at the counter and even emailed corporate but they say it is proprietary, so can't tell me the name or sell me any. Does anyone know what it was? I think they stopped giving it out about a year ago. Thanks!!!!
by on ‎02-14-2012 09:18 AM

Hi Marilyn, unfortunately, that information is proprietary. However, we will be sure to let our Corporate Brands Department know you would like to see this seasoning become available again. We appreciate your feedback!

Demetri,

I'm new at cooking fish with a marinade. I have just got a free packet of the Cuban Mojo. Will that work with tilapia?

And how do apply the contents of the packet?

Thanks

by on ‎03-15-2012 03:32 PM

Hi WalterK, the Cuban Mojo will certainly work with Tilapia. You can either sprinkle it directly on to the fish or you can mix the packet with something else for a liquid marinade. We recommend speaking with the employees at your local Safeway's Seafood Department for great tips and tricks for your seafood dishes. Enjoy!

Dear Mr. Demetri,

After a very informative news report it was made known that almost all imported shrimp is contaminated with pestisides and chemicles that have banned in the US for more than 40 years. I would be very interested in knowing where Safeway gets their shrimp.

Thank you.

by on ‎05-24-2012 05:21 PM

We appreciate your interest and thank you for the inquiry, Jane. Our Shrimp comes from several sources and the country of origin should be on the package if outside the US.

PLEASE tell me that there is some way to let someone 'higher up' know that I desperately want to be able to have the packaged seasonings available - even for purchase... as we use them not only on fish, but also on chicken, and there really is nothing to compare to the Cuban Mojo and Moroccan.  I'll write someone if you let me know who! Thanks!

by on ‎06-06-2012 08:52 AM

We appreciate your feedback, GailMom. Please email us at safewaysocialmedia@safeway.com with your local store location. We’ll be happy to look into this further and submit a request on your behalf.

I recently used the Cuban Mojo on oven baked tilapia and it was excellent.  I would really like to purchase this seasoning.  Has Safeway decided to market this product.  I know it will be a popular item.

by on ‎09-13-2012 04:27 PM

We appreciate your feedback, Philomena and thank you for sharing! Your compliments will be directed to our Corporate Brands Team for further review. Please email us at safewaysocialmedia@safeway.com with the location of your local store, and we’ll be happy to submit your request to our Buyers in the area.

Hi Demetri,

I'm really exited to find out about these spices but surprised I have never heard of the free packets before (my seafood counter staff has never offered them up). These sound like great opportunities to convert the seafood-wary. Can you advertise them more?

I have two kids who don't like seafood but going to try some of these spice packets. Will let you know how it works.

Thanks,

Kat
