Muscular Dystrophy Association Fundraising Campaign & Coupons

Last year Safeway, with the generous help of our customers, raised over $11 million dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. These dollars helped pay for medical care, equipment, summer camp, and other assistance to people with MD and related muscle diseases. It also helped support MDA-funded scientists search for treatments and cures for these conditions. Small, individual donations made at the register through September 5th will add up to make a big difference for this cause. And this year look for the “Make a Muscle, Make a Difference” coupon book in-store which has over $38 worth of savings!

Every Bag Counts Food Drive

foodDrivegeneric.jpgDid you know that about 1 in 7 households are considered “food insecure”? That’s about 50 million people (including 17 million children) that “at times during the year, were uncertain of having, or unable to acquire, enough food to meet the needs of all their members because they had insufficient money or other resources for food.” This is the highest level of food insecurity that we have seen in the U.S. since 1995 when the government first started measuring! Safeway and its stores want to help, so between July 6th and July 23rd, for just $10 you can purchase pre-filled bags of groceries in our stores and drop them in the food drive barrels as you exit. Such an easy way to make a difference this summer!

Mother’s Day & Debi Lilly

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 8th and its time to celebrate one of the most cherished people in our lives – our moms. Safeway is the place to shop for the perfect gift. There are so many choices in the Floral department including bunches of beautiful roses, mixed bouquets, arrangements, balloons, boxed chocolates, flowering plants, orchids, home décor items and more.

WK 18_Mothers Day Debi Lilly.JPGSafeway introduced entertaining and design expert, Debi Lilly, earlier this year and now new Debi Lilly items have arrived. Effortless, inspired, imagined describe the new line of Debi Lilly products available only at Safeway. There are fragrant candles in the most popular sizes from votives to pillars in colors that compliment the home. Select from Snap, Refresh, Dusk, Twilight, Beeswax or unscented. These candles look positively inspired when placed inside Debi’s Illusion Glass or Cube Glass Collections, which are available in several sizes. The Illusion Vase Collection features four sizes of cylinder vases with an illusion bubble in the base. Not only are the Illusion vases great for candles but also look wonderful with a beautiful mixed bouquet designed by Debi that makes the perfect Mom’s Day gift. Safeway also has several other arrangement designs by Debi Lilly such as The Allure, The Modern, and The Contemporary Rose that all feature beautiful roses.

Eat Some Citrus

Citrus.JPGFor many of us, the cold weather has hit full force - and if you’re like me, you may not be the biggest fan of a cold winter. There’s a great way to send your mind back to those warm days and nights. Eat some citrus! The unmistakable sweet taste of citrus always reminds me of summer days. A great deal of the orange crop comes from Florida and California. Most of Florida's oranges are turned into juice because its warmer, humid climate can leave their rind with a green tinge. Although their juice is sweeter than those grown in California's cooler evenings and lower humidity, California's climate produces a more attractive looking fruit with higher acid levels. There are so many great varieties to choose from, whether you’re picking out oranges, lemon, or grapefruit. Pick out your favorite this week during Safeway’s citrus sale!

Holiday Daily Deals

HolidayDailyDeals.jpgI love a great deal on the products I use, particularly around the holidays! This year Safeway has a “Holiday Daily Deals” promotion (it started yesterday) that has an amazing price on a single item in the store each day between now and Christmas Eve. Keep an eye out in the ad for the products; I saw some great prices on holiday essentials like flour, chocolate morsels, rolled oats, and pies!

Seafood Seasoning

As an avid fan of seafood, I have tried many concoctions of dry rubs and wet marinades to prepare my fish and shrimp. I typically tend to stick to the basics; olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper, lemon, etc. On rare occasion, I’ll venture out for a bit more flavor to try some of the gourmet spices, but I sometimes regret paying the extra money for a full can of expensive spice that I may not completely use for a while.

Recently, the Safeway seafood departments began a new marinade program that perfectly bridges the gap between my traditional ingredients and the expensive gourmet spices. You can now get a free packet of waterfrontBISTRO® seafood spices and rubs with any seafood purchase.

SeafoodSeasoning.JPGChoose from these 5 varieties: Cuban Mojo (Tropical blend), Chimichurri (Argentine BBQ style), Charmoula (Moroccan flavor), Tandoori (East Indian flavors) or American Smokehouse. These .4oz packets are perfect for (2) 6oz fish filets or approximately 1lb of shrimp.

The ingredients in all 5 varieties are natural so you don’t have to worry about any processed junk polluting your perfectly healthy seafood dinner. I highly recommend trying one of these to flavor your next Seafood dinner. Just ask for a free packet with your next Seafood purchase, and then let me know how it worked out for you. I’d love to hear which flavors are your favorites!
