Wine Sale!

by Kate on 11-17-2009 11:01 AM - last edited on 11-17-2009 11:16 AM

With the holidays come many get togethers with our friends. It seems like we are always going somewhere for an open house or dinner. We like to arrive with something in hand so we often bring a bottle of wine as a hostess gift. I stock up a few times a year on wine to make sure we have enough in the house for such occasions. The great thing about this time of year is Safeway's wine sale - 30% off bottles that are $20 or more (excludes champagne and sparkling wine). And, if you buy 6 or more bottles (at any price) you get another 10% off - that's a 40% discount on some great wines! What I love about this is it gives me the chance to buy & give wines that are typically outside of my price range. I love great deals like that!

CouponLink - New Feature!

by Kate on 11-05-2009 06:35 AM

Here's some great news, many of the coupons you print from our website, and brought to you by Coupons.com are now available to electronically download to your club card. Not all the "print from home" coupons have the download option yet, but more and more will eventually have it and we just couldn't wait to bring this new feature to you! Just like the Shortcuts, Cellfire, and P&G eSAVER coupons - no more printing and cutting, simply download the savings right to your card and when you make the purchase the savings will automatically be applied to your bill! Once you download your coupons, don't forget to go back to the "print at home" area in the Coupon Center to pick up any additional coupons you may want to print (the ones you've downloaded will automatically show up as "added"). Super Price Coupons will still be available in the weekly ad, and of course there are still the manufacturer coupons that come in the Sunday paper - plenty of ways to save!

Super Price Coupons!

by Kate on 11-03-2009 09:33 AM

If you haven't seen this past Sunday's ad, you should take a look. It's loaded with Super Price Coupons, 33 to be exact, across a wide range of products. Family favorites like peanut butter, and mac & cheese, cereal, snacks, frozen foods, dairy, personal care, bath tissue, and laundry! There's even a coupon for deli meat and diapers too! With so many coupons I just had to do the math on the savings - it was nearly $40!

We have a great sale on Halloween candy right now, prices good through Tuesday, October 27th. Buy any four bags of Hershey’s or Mars fun size candy and it’s just $2 a bag! I have to confess, Max and I use Halloween as an excuse to buy our favorite treats, since we rarely buy candy during the rest of the year (too tempting to keep in the house!). The fun size bars are perfect for portion control, one is just enough to satisfy a craving without putting you over your calorie count for the day. What are your favorite Halloween treats?

Have you signed up yet for the Safeway email program?  You’ll receive a weekly email giving you a heads up on weekly specials, promotions and coupons.  And as the holidays get closer you’ll also get information on recipes and leftovers, and planning and decorating tips too!  There were some great tips and tricks last year, like the turkey carving video – always good to have a refresher on that since we only do it once a year!  And the recipes to make the most of your holiday leftovers?  Yum!

Dollar Deals!

by Kate on 10-19-2009 08:16 AM

There are some great deals in the ad this week, prices good through Tuesday the 20th. Beverages, breakfast sausage, rice & pasta side dishes, canned beans, and toothpaste, all for $1 or less! And did you catch the Kraft Macaroni & Cheese 48 hour sale this past weekend (5/$2)? I took advantage of that price to restock my pantry, a favorite comfort food for the girls now that the weather is cool and the rain has started. They love it topped with Romano cheese, sometimes we’ll add in steamed broccoli too. What creative twists and recipes using mac and cheese do you have?

FREE Pasta Instantly!

by Kate on 10-12-2009 09:59 AM

I wanted to make sure you saw this deal in the ad, good through Tuesday October 13th. Just purchase two jars of Classico pasta sauce (on sale at 2 for $4, 2 for $5 in Alaska and Hawaii) and get two FREE boxes of Barilla pasta instantly at checkout. Time to stock up!

Have you become a fan of Safeway on Facebook yet? Well if the savings, online coupons, blog posts and discussions with fellow fans weren’t enough, we are now featuring Facebook exclusive offers too! Like the one last week for a one pound loaf of Safeway Select Artisan French Bread, just $0.25 cents with a coupon that you could get only on Facebook! The bread was amazing, we warmed it up and ate it plain, no spreads of any kind and it was delicious! And, did you know that it’s baked from scratch in our stores every day? No wonder it tastes so fresh!

10 for $10

by Kate on 09-28-2009 09:45 AM - last edited on 09-30-2009 03:20 PM

There are a lot of staples in the 10 for $10 promotion that I wanted to make sure you took advantage of – rice, pre-packaged salad, tuna, O Organic Beans, mac & cheese, fresh chicken leg quarters, canned tomatoes, and some fresh produce items too! And just in case you were unsure, you actually don’t have to buy ten to get the $1 each price. Check it out; you won’t want to miss this opportunity to stock up!

Ok, I’ll admit the name is a mouthful but there’s a lot going on in the cleaning aisle over the next week or so. There’s a new promotion called “Clean it Like You Mean it” featuring over 100 items in the cleaning aisle from brands like Clorox, Swiffer, Hefty, Febreze and Lysol. Participating items are being offered on a “buy one get one free” deal AND you choose the items to mix and match (look for the special tag). The promotion runs through September 29th. I’ve put garbage bags, air fresheners, and disinfecting wipes on my list. With cold and flu season coming up I’m going to be even more vigilant about cleaning the surfaces in our home and car – kids toys, telephones, and door knobs/handles. I probably should bring some disinfecting wipes to the office as well.

September is National Coupon Month

by Kate on 09-17-2009 09:58 AM - last edited on 09-17-2009 10:56 AM

Hard to believe, but September has been crowned National Coupon month (and National Life Insurance Awareness month, who comes up with these things?). Anyway, in honor of this “observance” the Promotion Marketing Association’s Coupon Council released a study which had an interesting fact that I thought I’d pass along in the hopes of nudging you non-couponers to the other side – those who spend 15-20 minutes a week clipping and organizing their coupons save on average, $5 - $10 a week! And, now there are so many more ways to get coupons. In addition to the manufacturer coupons in the Sunday paper and the Safeway Super Price Coupons in our store flyer you can also go online to our website and print out coupons and/or download them directly to your club card. The downloadable coupons (P&GeSaver, Shortcuts & Cellfire) automatically redeem at the store when you buy the products, so you don’t have to remember to bring paper coupons to the store! If you haven’t had the time to clip or click coupons, give it a try, in honor of National Coupon Month!

New & Improved Super Price Coupons!

by Kate on 08-24-2009 11:38 AM

I wanted to make sure you noticed the latest development in our Super Price Coupons. Starting last week there are higher limits on some of the coupons! Look carefully though, there are still limits, it’s just that in some instances it’s 2, 3, or more items. Last week for example; the Safeway Trash Bags 20-30ct Super Price Coupon had a limit of 4, the Super Price Coupon for StarKist Canned Tuna had a limit of 3, and the Crisp Iceberg Lettuce Super Price Coupon had a limit of 2. Hurray! In previous weeks the limits were always “Limit 1”. Now we can get even more value with the Super Price Coupons!

O Organics Baby Spinach

by Kate on 08-19-2009 11:23 AM

There was a great super coupon for O Organics 1lb salad greens so I took advantage and bought two (purchasing the 2nd package with a coupon when I went back midweek for a 2nd produce run). Having so much fresh spinach on hand encouraged me to be more creative about working it into our meals – more salads for Max and I (Gabby would try a little too, particularly if I put in roasted walnuts) and sautéed spinach and garlic as a side dish. Wanting a little variety, I pureed fresh spinach in my food processor and added into my new favorite pasta sauce (also had a super coupon for this a week or two ago) – Safeway Select Four Cheese. That sauce is really good and while the spinach made it a little darker than usual the girls ate it right up! Next up, turkey burgers with spinach and feta. What are your favorite recipes that use spinach?

$0.99 Sale!

by Kate on 06-29-2009 08:59 AM

I wanted to make sure you saw this week’s “special event”, good through Tuesday, June 30th, many items throughout the store for just $0.99 (an item or pound)! Great items to stock up on – frozen vegetables, rice & pasta side dish mixes, bread, tuna, snacks, and condiments, as well as meat items like hot dogs, ribs, and chicken! Make room in your pantry/freezer and come check it out!

Now Safeway has four ways to get coupons on the website.  The first two I’ve mentioned before – printing coupons from the Safeway site and P&G eSaver, a digital coupon site where you add the coupon right to your Club Card.  Two new digital coupon options are also available which means even more coupons!  Shortcuts.com and Cellfire.com also enable you to add coupons directly to your Club Card – so nothing to carry with you to the store.  When you buy the product the coupon is automatically applied at the check stand.  And, any coupons from the digital coupon services (P&G eSaver, Cellfire, Shortcuts) can be applied to your online shopping order too.  One thing to note, you need your actual Club Card # (not your phone #) to register on each of these sites.  If you don’t have it you can call (1-877-723-3929) or email (http://www.safeway.com/IFL/Grocery/Comments#iframetop) Safeway customer service and they will find it for you within the week.  Check it out!

DVD Play Triple Play Promotion

by Kate on 06-12-2009 10:42 AM

We use DVD Play (the red kiosk at the store where you can rent movies for $1/night) a couple times a month and I’ve always wondered what would happen if the machine malfunctioned.  Well, last week I found out.  I went to return our movie and the machine was jammed.    I didn’t want to come back later or get charged for another day so I went over to the Safeway Customer Service desk to see if they could help.  They took the movie and gave me a phone number (1-866-738-3752) to call to make sure I didn’t get charged.  Completely smooth, friendly, no issues – relief!  And, in June, DVD Play is running a promotion where you get 3 free rentals with the purchase of any 3 participating snacks and beverages in one transaction.   Check it out!

On the Fence about Grocery Delivery?

by Kate on 06-08-2009 08:53 AM

This is a great time to try it out!  Through June 16th, new customers get free delivery on their first order (only $50 minimum).   AND any orders placed in the next 60 days are delivered free too! I know for me, there are weeks when I just can’t get to the store for my weekly trip, either because I’ve been out of town or just too busy with life’s activities – those weeks Safeway delivery is a life saver!  Then there are those weeks when I’m trying to save up a little from my grocery budget to get something for the house or kids (like swim suits and sandals for summer!)  - grocery delivery helps me out here too because it’s really easy to stick to my budget.  With an offer like this it’s a great time to kick the tires of the service and see if it makes sense for you.  Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Making Sense of Store Coupons

by Kate on 06-01-2009 04:15 PM

We’ve been hearing a lot about how everyone is using coupons to help manage their grocery budget and we’ve also seen that there are a lot of questions about how to use our Super Coupons.  So, I thought it might be helpful to go straight to the marketing team and ask them to put together a short “glossary” of the common terms you see on our Super Coupons.   Here’s a link http://www.safeway.com/IFL/Grocery/Smart-Savings-Tips, I hope it helps!

There’s a “meal deal” running in the Deli this week (ends Tuesday or Wednesday depending on where you live) that I want to make sure you’re aware of. A whole roasted chicken (if you’re in Phoenix it’s a Signature Café main dish or entrée salad instead), two Signature Café Side Dishes (like mashed potatoes or broccoli au gratin), and a four-pack of King’s Hawaiian rolls for just $9.99! Perfect for those nights when there’s just no time (or energy) to cook and a bargain compared to restaurant take out. Check it out!

On-line coupons for Meat, Produce, Bakery, Deli

by Kate on 04-28-2009 08:28 AM - last edited on 05-13-2009 01:33 PM

During my last business trip I was surprised to hear a shopper, who loves & uses coupons every time she shops, express frustration that stores don’t offer coupons for meat and produce.   She obviously had not been to our website to check out the on-line coupons!   She couldn’t have been happier when we told her that she could find coupons for our fresh departments on our website.   So I wanted to mention it again for those who might be reading this blog for the first time.   We regularly offer online coupons (that you print and bring to the store) formeat, produce, deli, floral, and bakery, plus all the categories you usually see (cereal, juice, etc.).  If you’ve been reading this blog you know that I’m a “clicker and a clipper”, using whatever coupons I can get my hands on to save some money.  Savings usually add up to $5 - $10 a week – that’s easily over $250 a year!

Create a Shopping List Online from the Ad!

by Kate on 04-22-2009 09:33 AM - last edited on 05-13-2009 01:34 PM

I discovered a feature on our website that I wanted to share(apparently it’s been available “forever” according to our InteractiveMarketing team - who knew?).  I was checking out the online coupons anddecided to look at the weekly specials online as well when I stumbled on theability to create and print a shopping list directly from the ad – I lovethis!  I already use the ad to plan my trip, writing in items from theflyer to my list (which I keep on the fridge, along with my coupons), now it’smuch easier & complete.  There’s even a space to “add notes” which Iused to fill in items that I didn’t see in the ad.  The printed listincludes a photo, description, price, a space to change the quantities, and thedates that the price is valid for each item.  Having a list that detailedwill help me make sure I’m getting the right products and make it easier for meto send “someone else” to do the shopping.  Just enter your zip codein the Weekly Specials area on the home page - http://www.safeway.com/IFL/Grocery/Weekly-Specials.Click on the store nearest you to view the specials, click on the ad, pagethrough, and add the items you want to your list.  I prefer the “html”browse mode since the view includes the ad as well as a list of the items onthat page which makes it easier to add them to the shopping list.  Whenyou’re done, click on “view list” at the bottom of your shopping list on theleft side of the page, this is where you can double check, add your notes,and/or change quantities - print when complete. Check it out!

Living Well Feeling Great – Get $10 off your next Shopping Trip!

by Kate on 04-20-2009 08:39 AM - last edited on 05-13-2009 01:34 PM

Safeway is running a promotion (in the ad last week) called Living Well Feeling Great. Every time you spend $30 with your Club Card on participating products in a single shopping trip from April 15 – May 5 you’ll receive a $10 off coupon good on your next visit – that’s a great coupon! Over 3,000 health and wellness related food, beverage, personal/home care, and earth friendly items to choose from. There’s also an in-store flyer, make sure you pick it up as there are super coupons on the back too. I’ve attached a flyer we received at the office which lists many of the brands to help you plan your trip (Click Here to See It ). Last year I earned this reward once without even trying. This year, with the help of the list and some careful planning I should be able to earn it with each trip!
